Las Palmas

Las Palmas is the capital of Gran Canaria and is located in the north east of the island.

Las Palmas was founded in 1478 and as such has an abundance of culture and heritage. In fact the oldest section of town, Vegueta, was in 1990 named as a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Las Palmas has an impressive harbour area known as Puerto de la Luz and there are also any number of Las Palmas hotels and Las Palmas apartments to stay in.

These days Las Palmas is a thriving city full of tourism and European flavour and boasts three great beaches as well as some interesting museums.

Las Palmas is also famous for being the city in which both Canarian wrestling (Lucha) and Canarian lateen sailing originated.
