Maspalomas

Maspalomas is an upmarket resort on the southern tip of Garn Canaria, it is home to the largest golf course on the island.

There are many high end hotels in Maspolamas although there are cheaper apartments in Maspalomas.

The resort is separated from Playa Del Ingles by a national park, designated as such in 1994, of sand dunes which can only be crossed by foot or on camel.

The park is home to some rare species of plants, that can only be found in the Canaries, along with rabbits and Lizards.

To the west of the dunes is the very pricey area of El Oasis which is near the remnants of a sea water lagoon, La Charca, which is home to lots of different migratory birds at least for a short while.

A 65 metre tall lighthouse built in 1886 is also nearby, Faro de Maspolamas. This resort is home to Aqualand, the biggest water park on the island.

There is a designated gay area on the beach as well as having a gay pride event that lasts a whole week every May.
